BEST Bitesize

The average per employee spend on learning and development world wide rose steadily between 2008 and 2019. The fall in 2020 is attributable to the global pandemic with a reduced workforce, certified training exemptions and, and where it was necessary, it was essential, training was delivered online.

I have never been a big fan on online training, but that was in the days of the traditional CBT-computer based training, where you sit mindlessly flicking through slides with some multiple choice question set at the end.

We are changing that. We recognise the world has changed. Changed in how we consume training and how we choose to spend our time. Gone are the days when organisations can routinely 'spare' an employee for a few days to go to a venue for training and a nice lunch, and people on their downtime from work, are more vocal about it being just that. Downtime with their families and friends, regardless of a claw back day's pay. If COVID taught is anything, it was that time is something we can't get back.

During the pandemic, the 2 day BEST course was moved online using the brilliant Howspace facilitation tool. This gave our delegates access to a range of formats of material used, the opportunity to interact before during and after the training between themselves, and tools to create additional interactive elements like quizzes and polls, supported by AI functionality.

This year we are launching a new format to bring together all of these learnings to suit the delegates, our end users, and how they learn.

BEST Bitesize is delivered remotely but 100% facilitated by industry experts in environmental management. It creates communities within each cohort to continue the shared learnings and discussions they take part in during the training.

Why Bitesize? This is the BEST bit, the course is delivered over four 2 hour modules with additional tasks in between to be completed at the worksite to embed learnings and showcase the practical implementation of the training. Trainees upload their work for assessment and the findings are discussed 1-2-1 with additional coaching and guidance as needed.

Later in the year, we are launching a global environmental programme to deliver our 3 Es to our international network: Engage. Empower. Educate.
