Clause 4, my favourite.

This is the clause of the 3 main ISOs 9001, 14001 and 45001 which sets the scene for the management system and your business.

Why is it my favourite❓

This is where the business improvement magic happens.

A MS manual or certificate on the wall doesn't make you safer or necessary reduce your impact on the environment, it simply provides a framework to organise these arrangements. These are legal requirements anyway.

What an MS does do though, is lead you down the path to consider:

🔴Understanding the organisation and its context
🔴Understanding the needs and expectations of interested parties

In non ISO terms, this is where you identify and assess your stakeholders (including customers), look at threats and opportunities (new markets) and complete a PESTLE analysis (to understand your market and its drivers).

Key business tools to drive business improvement. Key business tools to manage business risk.

When the leadership team are fully engaged in the process, this is where we drive change from the top and consider the significant commercial benefits of effective HSE management.

Aside from Sunderland 🔴⚪ winning the playoffs at Wembley in May 2022 ⚽, nothing excites me more than the light bulb 💡penny drop when it all comes together for the MD.
